Kindergarten News 10/01/07

Today is St. Theresa’s Feast Day.
Tomorrow is the Feast of the Guardian Angels!
Thursday is the feast of St. Francis.



October, the Month of the Rosary
Among Catholics, October is dedicated to the Rosary. Each Friday in October we will gather as a school family to pray the Rosary. Please take time to pray the Rosary with your children. The prayer of the month is the Hail, Holy Queen. Please see the newsletter in the October family envelope.

Topics & Themes
The letter of the week is Pp.
The sight word is you. Please review all the letters and sight words frequently.
We will read about pumpkins and do related projects.
We will learn about the Holy Rosary.
The October homework calendar went home last week.

Events This Week
Monday: September homework calendar is due.
Thursday: Mass and blessing of the animals will be at 1:15pm on the front lawn. Please DO NOT bring animals to school in the morning.
Friday: minimum day as the teachers have a staff meeting. There is no lunch service.

Uniform Update
Please check Mrs. Blackburn’s letter in the family envelope. Boys must now wear blue corduroy pants; and girls must wear their plaid uniform jumpers/shorts. Girls will be allowed to wear uniform pants from December through February. Students will be allowed to wear Dennis uniform shorts again in May. Please see the handbook.

Field Trip Reminder!
Next Tuesday morning, October 9th, both kindergarten classes will visit the Pumpkin Patch in Plainsburg.

Please continue to pray for peace.

Teacher In-service
There is no school on Friday, October 19th, as the teachers attend an in- service in Visalia.
Cartridges/Cell Phones
We encourage you to bring in your used printer cartridges and old cell phones for recycling. The school earns points towards computer equipment and it is environmentally friendly. Contact our computer lab instructor, Mr. George Somers, for more information.

Box Tops/Campbell’s Soup Labels
Please bring in BoxTops and Campbell’s Soup labels as they benefit the school’s athletic program. The class that turns in the most box tops and labels for any given month can earn a free dress day!

Backpack Check
Parents, please check your child’s backpack daily for notes and other important papers.

Kindergarten Newsletter 09/24/07

Thank You!
Thank you to all who help us on campus and at home. Thanks to those who brought in paper towels this week. Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated. God bless you always!





Uniform Reminder
Unless Mrs. Blackburn states otherwise, this is the last week that students are allowed to wear Dennis shorts to school until May. As of Monday, October 1st, boys must wear navy blue corduroy pants every day and girls must wear their jumpers (and shorts).

Remember, only navy blue Dennis Uniform sweaters or navy blue OLM sweatshirts are allowed in school.

Pumpkin Patch Permission Slip
Permission slips for our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch in Plainsburg go home this week. Please complete and return the form with the $3 by Monday, October 1st. All chaperones must have completed the safe environment training session and they must be fingerprinted.


Themes and Topics
This week we will continue our look at fall and apples. We will also read about Johnny Appleseed and do related projects.
Our letter of the week is Tt
and the sight word is “a”.
We will learn that the Bible is God’s “love letters” to His people.



Homework Calendar
The October homework calendar will go home Friday, September 28th. Please turn in the completed September calendar on Monday, October 1st.

Sight Word Review
Please review your child’s list of sight words regularly. They can be found in the Welcome to Kindergarten booklet you received at the beginning of the school year.

Milk/Lunch Tickets
Please check your child’s milk and lunch ticket inventory in the pocket chart in the classroom.



Mass and Blessing of the Animals
Mass will be celebrated on the lawn at OLM School at 1:15pm on Thursday, October 4th (the feast of St. Francis). Students will be seated with their classes. There will be an area for families and pets. Watch for more information in the October family envelope.



Feast Days
Today is the feast of Our Lady of Mercy. Saturday, September 29th, is the feast of saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, archangels. October 2nd is the feast of the guardian angels. Ask them to pray for us.

Schedule Reminder
Friday, October 5th, is a minimum day. Dismissal is at 12:30pm. There will be no lunch service. Students in the enrichment program should bring a lunch.
There is no school Friday, October 19th, as the teachers go to Visalia for an in-service.


Safe Environment Training
You must complete this training and be fingerprinted before you will be authorized to volunteer to work with the children or chaperone on field trips. The next training session will be Wednesday, October 10th at St. Patrick’s Hall. Registration is required at least 48 hours prior to the class. Health and Safety Fair
Come to the annual Health and Safety Fair on Sunday, September 30th, between 8:30am and 1pm in and around the parish hall. There will be a number of interesting and fun stations. Healthy sandwiches will be available for only $4.00.

Kindergarten News 09/17/07

Progress Reports
Progress reports went home Friday, September 14th. Please read, sign and return your child’s progress report as soon as possible.

Supplies Needed
We are in need of paper towels. Thanks for sharing your time, talents and treasures with us.

Free Dress Friday!
Our Lady of Mercy School recently received notification of a six year term of accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and College’s. Many people work very hard for the success of our school. In celebration of this recognition, students and staff will be allowed to wear appropriate free dress on Friday, September 21st. See the school handbook for the dress code.



Cooler Mornings
Fall is in the air and the mornings are cooler. Remember, only OLM sweatshirts and Dennis Uniform cardigans are allowed in school. Please refer to the OLM handbook for the school’s dress code.
Please label your child’s belongings clearly.

Pumpkin Patch Permission Slips
Permission slips for our field trip to the pumpkin patch on October 9th will go home soon. Amanda Hanley's mother has generously offered to take the students (both classes) by bus to the pumpkin patch. Chaperones may drive in private cars and meet us there.

Do you know the SLE’s?
You should be very proud of your kindergartners as they are able to recite all the main headings of OLM’s School Wide Learning Expectations.
Please review them and their subheadings with your children.


Health Fair
Please check out the eighth annual health fair on Sunday, September 30th, from 8:30 am to 1 pm in and around St. Patrick’s Hall. There will be good food and many fun and informative stations. Younger students can earn prizes for participating.

Kindergarten News 09/10/07


Open House
Thanks to all who attended OLM School’s open house. It was nice to see you, your families, and friends.


Picture Day
Pictures will be taken Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Catalog Sale Ends Wednesday
The catalog/cookie dough sale ends this Wednesday, September 12th. Please turn in your packets (including money) by 3pm this Wednesday. There are individual and class prizes!

Themes and Topics
This week we will continue to work with colors and color words.
We will study six basic shapes (square, circle, triangle, rectangle, oval, and diamond).
We will learn to recognize, extend, and create patterns.
The letter of the week is Dd.
The sight word is I.
We will discuss the fact that God made us; and we are good.

Volunteers/Drivers
If you plan to volunteer on campus or drive for any of our field trips, you must attend a Safe Environment in-services. One is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11 at 6pm in the auditorium.



Campbell’s Soup Labels/Box Tops
Please bring your soup labels and box tops to school. Put them in the envelope on the bulletin board.



Cartridges & Cell Phones
OLM School is collecting empty ink cartridges and old cell phones for new computer equipment. Individuals, families, businesses, etc. are encouraged to get involved. The class
that collects the most will earn a pizza party at the end of the year.
It’s good for the school and the environment.

Kindergarten News 09/04/07

Welcome to September.
It promises to be very busy!

Themes and Topics

We will explore colors, sorting and patterns.


Mary’s Birthday
Saturday, September 8th, is the day we celebrate the birth of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Please remember to honor her and ask her to pray for us.


Blue Folders
Each week I give your child a laminated blue folder with his or her name on it. It is your child’s responsibility to return the folder to school the next school day.

Open House
Please come to OLM School’s open house on Sunday, September 9th. Mass will be celebrated in the auditorium at 11am. Classrooms and other facilities will be open from noon until 2pm.
Tri-tip dinners will be available in the auditorium from noon until 3pm.

Remember to pray for peace!
Computer/Library
Kindergartners go to computer lab on Thursdays.
They visit the library each Friday.

School Pictures
Please return the picture envelope with the proper amount by Monday, September 10th. School pictures will be taken Tuesday, September 11th and Wednesday September 12th.

Important Notice to all OLM Volunteers and Drivers
We plan to go to the Plainsburg Pumpkin Patch in October.
If you plan to volunteer on campus or drive for any of our field trips you must attend one of the Safe Environment in-services.
You must also contact Merced Sheriff’s Department to be fingerprinted.
