Kindergarten News 05/29/07

Final Newsletter!
This is the last newsletter for the 2006-2007 school year. It is hard to believe that our last day of school is this Thursday, May 31st! This week I will send home a bag of "goodies" for each child. This will include scissors, crayons, remaining workbook pages a journal, pencils, etc. These are great for summer enrichment.

Thanks to all the families and friends who helped us throughout the school year. thanks for assisting us in the classroom, preparing materials at home, bringiing in supplies, helping at our parties, driving for field trips, raising money for a new playground, and for doing so much more! Your contributions of your time, talents, prayers, and resources are blessings to us all!

Last Days of School
Wednesday, May 30th, is our field day. Kindergarten students are allowed to wear free dress (check the handbook). Students may bring in a favorite game or G-rated movie.
Thursday, May 31st, is the last day of school for kindergarten. Our closing prayer service will be at 8:15am in the auditorium. Families and friends are welcome.
The students must arrive at school at the regular time (7:50am).
Boys must wear navy blue corduroy long pants and light blue uniform shirt.
Girls must wear the jumper with shorts underneath and a white uniform shirt. Please, NO BACKPACKS OR SWEATSHIRTS ON THURSDAY.

Cookies and juice will be available after the prayer service.
A big THANKS to those who are preparing the refreshments.

Certificates and Report Cards
Your child will receive a certificate of participation in kindergarten during the prayer service (nice photo opportunity). Please see me after the prayer service for your child's final report card and DVD (if pre-ordered). Remember to take home your child's "paper candle". You will find them attached to the front of the stage.

Class will be dismissed for the summer as soon as you receive your child's report card.

Thank you, for entrusting your child to us for a few hours each day during this school year. It has been an honor to work with you and your children. This has been a year of growth spiritually, academically, physically, and socially.

Kindergarten News 05/21/07


Thanks and God Bless You!
Thanks to all our kindergarten families who have helped us throughout the school year. Thanks for assisting us in the classroom, preparing materials at home, bringing in supplies, helping at our parties, driving for field trips, and for doing so much more. Your contributions of your time, talents, and resources are greatly appreciated. God bless you!

This Week

This week we will wrap things up, and prepare for the kindergarten prayer service.
Wednesday, May 23rd: awards assembly. There is no lunch service today.
Thursday, May 24th: We read with our seventh grade buddies for the last time.
Friday, May 25th: eighth grade carnival. Students are allowed to wear free dress. The carnival starts at 10:00 am and concludes at noon. Dismissal is at 12:30 pm. Tickets for carnival games and activities will be available for purchase on Friday.
Monday, May 28th: Memorial Day,
No School!

Kindergarten Portfolios
Mrs. Pedrozo and I are completing a large portfolio for each student in our class. Each big book includes photos, writings and other projects completed during the course of this school year. Please come in and pick up your child’s portfolio and other personal belongings by
Friday, May 25th. It is too much for the children to carry.

The Last Days of School
Tuesday, May 29th: clean up day.
Wednesday, May 30th: kindergarten field day. Kindergarten students are allowed to wear free dress. Please see the student handbook regarding appropriate free dress.
Thursday, May 31st : last day of school for kindergarten. Our prayer service and will be in the auditorium at 8:15am. It will conclude before 9:15am. The children must be in class by 7:50am. Students are to wear their uniforms.

Girls need to wear their jumpers (with shorts underneath) and white shirts. Uniforms should be clean and in good condition.
Cookies and punch will be available at the conclusion of the prayer service. See Mrs. Joseph for information on refreshments.

After the ceremony, please pick up your child’s “candle” which will be taped to the front of the stage. Also, see me for your child’s final report card and your pre-ordered DVD.

Dismissal is immediately following the prayer service.

Kindergarten News 05/14/07


I hope you had a blessed Mother's Day!


Only 12 more days of school! During this busy time we are wrapping things up and preparing for our prayer service. Please consult last week's letter or blog posting for important upcoming dates.

Thanks to the parents who drove for our field trip to Fire Station 55. It was a real success!

Thanks also to all the families who provided supplies and goodies for our Teddy Bear Snack.


This Week
We will experiment with sand.
We will prepare for our closing prayer service.


Portfolio
We are assembling samples of your child's work in a large portfolio. There are photos and projects from each month the the kindergarten school year. It is a wonderful keepsake and a great way to mark your child's progress. Please pick up your child's portfolio on Friday, May 25th.


Commemorative DVD
Immediately following the kindergarten closing prayer service on Thursday, May 30th, there will be a slide show set to music. This slide show will feature an assortment of photos of the kindergartners taken throughout the 2006-2007 school year. You may pre-order a copy of this DVD at $5.00 each. I will hand them out after the prayer service. If you are interested in placing an order, please complete and return the order form (enclosed in this week's folder) by Friday, May 18th.

Kindergarten News 05/07/07

Thanks!
Thank you to all our helpers!

This Week
This week we will look at bears in literature, math, etc.
We will continue to explore addition and subtraction.
The sight words are of and for.
We will prepare for our closing prayer service.


Bears
Kindergartners are encouraged to share their favorite bears, bear stories, etc. They may bring in a favorite Teddy Bear on Friday as I plan to have a Teddy Bear snack and take pictures.

May is the month of Mary.
We will pray the Rosary as a school family during morning prayer on the next two Fridays in May. Come join us.

Field Trip Update
Thanks to all who have turned in their permission slips for our field trip to the fire station on Thursday. We leave OLM School at 8:45am.
Please remember your child's car seat.


Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
Mail carriers will collect non-perishable foods from OLM School on Thursday, May 10th, as a part of Stamp Out Hunger food drive. Please be generous.

May 7: Blessing of the gardens at 8:15

May 8: Mrs. Blackburn previews the talent show acts in the morning.

May 9: Tour castles and Renaissance booths with 8th graders.

May 10: Field trip to the fire station. Remember the car seat.

May 10: Talent show at 1:15pm; grades K - 4 perform.

May 11: Teddy Bear Snack (look for the sign-up sheet in class)

May 2007 Homework Calendar

Read and pray every day!

1 Count as high as you can by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s.
2 Write your name and phone number. Say your address and birthday.
3 Review the sight words. Write a few sentences using some of the words.
4 Say the days of the week, the months of the year and the season.
5 Practice skipping, hopping, running and tossing a ball.
6 5th Sunday of Easter Read and pray. Ask God to bless the new week.
7 Play “Go Fish” with friends or family.
8 Write the upper case and lower case letters in your favorite colors. Review their sounds.
9 How many ways can you add up to 10? Hint: use counters.
10 Review vowels and consonants. Review when to use punctuation marks (. !).
11 Think about why you are thankful for your family. Write and draw.
12 Take a nature walk with a family member. Write about what you see and draw a picture.
13 Mother’s Day Do something nice for your mother, aunt, Godmother or grandmother.
14 Find10 things that are round. Write them in a list.
15 Write five words that rhyme with bake.
16 Write a cheerful note to someone.
17 Review the days of the week and the months of the year.
18 Pray the Our Father and the Hail Mary with your family.
19 Read a favorite book. Draw a picture about your favorite part.
20 7th Sunday of Easter Pray for healing.
21 Do an act of kindness for someone.
22 Read a story about spring or animals. Retell the story in your own words.
23 Write as many words as you can by sounding them out. Write the sounds you hear.
24 Make different patterns with pieces of cereal, toys, beans, etc. ABC,AABB,ABBC
25 Write a few sentences about what you liked best about kindergarten.
26 Play a board game with a family member.
27 Pentecost Pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit
28 Memorial Day Pray for peace.
29 What are you going to do during the summer? Write and draw.
30 What do you want to learn in school next year? Write and draw.
31 Last Day of Kindergarten. Kindergarten Prayer Service and closing ceremony
