Kindergarten News 04/30/07

Goodbye April...Hello May!
May is dedicated to honor Mary, the Mother of Our Lord, Jesus.

During this month students are allowed to wear Dennis uniform shorts to school except on Mass days.


This Week
The sight words are he and she.
We will look at the word ending -ng.
We will learn about fire safety as we prepare for our field trip to the fire station.
We will learn about cinco de mayo.

I encourage students to share items (stories, books, etc.) that pertain to our weekly themes and topics.

Field Trip
On Thursday, May 10th, both kindergarten classes will tour the fire station on 16th Street. Please conplete the permission slip (included in this week's folder) and return it by Friday, May 4th.

Please let me know if you are able to drive for this trip.
Please remember the car seat!

Homework Calendar
The April homework calendar is now due. The May homework calendar is enclosed in this week's folder.

Minimum Day Friday
Friday, May 4th, is a minimum day as teachers have a staff meeting. Dismissal is at 12:30pm. There is no lunch service.

Talent Show
Kindergartners who wish to participate in the May 10th talent show must show me their acts and outfits by tomorrow, May 1st. They will also perform before Mrs. Blackburn for her approval.

Field Day
Kindergarten free dress/field day is Wednseday, May 30th.

Closing Prayer Service
You are invited to attend the kindergarten closing prayer service on Thursday, May 31st, at 8:30am in the auditorium. Students are to wear clean pressed uniforms (No Shorts). Each child will receive a certificate of participation in kindergarten.

See me after the prayer service for your child's final report card.

I need volunteers to provide and set up juice and cookies to be served after the prayer service.

Students will then be dismissed for the summer.

Kindergarten News 04/23/07

This Week
This week we will continue our look at ladybugs. The digraph of the week is wh and the sight word is look. In math we will continue to build on addition and subtraction skills. In religion we will discuss the fact that our families are where love begins and grows. We will talk about the importance, uniqueness, love, and support of our families.

Congratulations to the students who received their First Holy Communion last Saturday. There will be a Mass this Friday, April 27th, at OLM School to commemorate this step in their journey of faith!

We're Going on a Field Trip!
Both kindergarten classes will visit the fire station on 16th Street on May 10th. If you are available to drive, please let me know. remember, all volunteers must be fingeprinted and have attended a safe environment training session this year. Please see Mrs. Blackburn if you have any questions regarding the training.

Thanks to all who helped us in and out of the classroom this week. You are a blessing to us.

Relay for Life!
We are trying to raise money for this year's Relay for Life by offering an appropriate free dress day on Thursday, April 26th. To get the free dress, students must donate one dollar. The official color for the Relay is purple. We are hoping all will show support by wearing purple on Thursday, April 26th. Please see Mrs. Wennberg or Mrs. Tyler for more information.

Pancake Breakfast
Enjoy a hearty pancake breakfast on sunday, April 29th, at the parish hall. Tickets are $7.00 in advance and $8.00 at the door.

Talent Show
Does your kindergartner play an instrument, take karate, etc.? He or she might wish to participate in OLM School's annual talent show on May 10th at 1:15pm. If so, your child must perform his or her act for me and show me the costume before May 1st. Please refer to the flyer that went home last week regarding talent show guidelines.

Kindergarten News 04/16/07


Welcome Back!
I hope all of you had
a blessed and joy-filled Easter
and a refreshing spring vacation.

This Week
We will look at the digraph ch.
The sight word is where.
We will work with addition and subtraction.
We will also discuss Easter and the resurrection of Jesus.

New Sight Words
A new set of sight words (on orange) goes home in this folder. Please cut them apart and add them to the other three sets of sight words on the “o” ring.

Math Flash Cards
In this week’s folder you will find two Ziploc bags containing addition and subtraction flash cards and cards with tally marks. These are great for “homework” to reinforce some of our math concepts.

Please pray for the children who are preparing to receive Eucharist for the first time this Saturday, April 21st.

Dates to Know
April 27: School Mass at 8:15am in the auditorium.
April 28-29: Relay for Life at Merced College. Come support the American Cancer Society.
April 29: OLM Pancake Breakfast at St. Patrick’s Hall 7:00am to 12:00pm.

Uniform Reminders
*Thank you for clearly marking your child’s clothing and other personal items.
* Only plain solid colored socks (e.g. blue, white) are allowed (no logos or embellishments).
*For modesty and comfort girls must wear shorts under their jumpers.
*Students will be allowed to wear Dennis brand uniform walking shorts to school as of May 1st.

Please remember:
Corduroy pants and plaid jumpers are required for all Mass days.
