Kindergarten News 02/26/07

Goodbye, February. Hello, March. My, how time flies!

Lent
Pray, Fast, Give Alms
During this Lenten season (as always) we are challenged to give of our very selves to those in need.

*We have a collection jar at the door for donations to the American Cancer Society.

*We will gather as a school family in the auditorium each Friday in Lent to pray and meditate on the Stations of the Cross.

*The kindergartners are asked to bring a lunch for the St. Vincent de Paul Society each Friday in Lent.

*We are preparing a backpack for a foster child in this area. We need items to fill the backpack (school supplies, personal items, etc).


There is no school Friday, March 2nd, as teachers go to the L.A. Congress.

Thanks to the d’Escoto family for all their hard work and contributions for our Nicaragua display. It was a success!
Thanks to all the families who have shared their time, talents and treasure as we strive to provide a safer playground.
Thanks to all who help us at home and with our centers.

Kindergarten News 02/20/07



Ash Wednesday/Lent
Lent begins tomorrow! The OLM School family will gather in the auditorium for Mass and the distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday, February 21st, at 8:15 am. Please join us.

Heartfelt Thanks
Thanks to all who help us in the classroom and at home. God bless you!
Mrs. Pedrozo and I send you our sincere thanks for the thoughtful and generous Valentine cards, gifts, and good wishes.

International Fair Tonight!
We are wrapping up our look at Nicaragua and we will haave a display ready for tonight. Check out all the displays from around the world at OLM School's International Fair from 6pm to 8pm this evening in the auditorium.

This Week

In math we will work with pennies, nickels, and dimes.
We will learn a little about Mardi Gras and Lent.

Reading Logs
Thank you for reading with your child as we continue with our reading logs. Some of the books are more challenging than others. Please use this as an opportunity to read to your child as he or she grows in a love of reading.

Homework Calendars
Please turn in the homework calendars on time. There are a number of students who are not turning in their calendars.

Funding Factory
OLM School continuew to accept and appreciates your donations of:
1. Campbell Soup labels and box tops for school equipment
2. Ink cartridges for computer equipment.

Kindergarten News 02/13/07

Congratulations and Thanks!
I am happy to share with you that the WASC/WCEA team was very pleased with Our Lady of Mercy School. They were impressed with the students, parents, staff and parish community. Thank you for sharing your time, talents and treasures in support of Our Lady of Mercy School. God bless you.


Valentine's Day
Wednesday, February 14th, is Valentine's Day. Students and staff are allowed to wear free dress. all are encouraged to wear red, white, or pink. Students will share a Valentine's snack and are allowed to distribute Valentine cards. As I mentioned in last week's newsletter, there are 20 students in our class. I advise students to print their names on the "from" space and leave the "to" space blank to facilitate the distribution of the cards.
Thank You, Mrs. Millen Joseph for organizing the Valentine snacks.

Themes and Topics

The sight word of the week is it.
We will continue our look at Nicaragua as we prepare for OLM School's International Night.
We will read a bit about George Washington.

Help Wanted
A big "Thank You" goes to the d'Escoto family as they continue to help us tremendously with our preparations for OLM School's International Night. More help is needed. We need spoons/forks and napkins for food tasting. We also need a volunteer or two to help with our booth that evening. Please let me know if you are available.


Dates to Remember
Monday (2/19) is Presidents Day. There is no school.
Tuesday (2/20) is OLM School's International Night. Come to the auditorium from 6pm to 8pm to view the displays and taste the food.
Wednesday (2/21) is Ash Wednesday. Mass and the distribution of ashes will take place at OLM School. Please join us.
Friday (2/23) the school family will gather together each Friday in Lent (except for Mass days) for the Stations of the Cross.

Thank You
Thank you to all the parents who sat with us at Mass and drove our students back to school last Friday. Thanks to Mrs. Millen Joseph, who organized the preparation of the class project for the auction.

Blessings, Congratulations and Best Wishes to Justin Deckers, a first grader. He was baptized during Friday’s Mass. I have the great honor of being his Godmother.

WASC Visit

Members of the WASC team inspect our school and interview students, parents and staff this week. Let’s make them feel welcome and show them what a blessing OLM School is to us and the community.

This week we will:

*Learn about Nicaragua

Minimum Days/Holidays
Thursday, February 8th, is a minimum day as the WASC team completes the accreditation process.
There is no school Friday, February 9th.
There is no school on Monday, February 12th, in honor of Lincoln’s birthday.
There is no school February 19th in honor of Presidents Day.

Valentines Day
Wednesday, February 14th, is Valentines Day. It is a free dress day. Students are encouraged to wear red, white or pink. Please review the handbook or check with me regarding appropriate attire. Students are allowed to share Valentines with their classmates. There are 20 students in our class. I suggest that your child write his or her name in the “from” space and leave the “to” space blank. This will facilitate the distribution of the cards.
